Multi-award-winning jazz trumpet player BROWNMAN ALI, just back in Toronto after tour dates with iconic rapper Jay-z and best known for his creatively bombastic & energized playing style -- strips down to a bare bones duet configuration for the Musideum's "+1" series. Appearing this Sunday with internationally acclaimed reggae artist JASON WILSON, twice nominated for Junos for "reggae recording of the year", and now touring the globe promoting his latest 2-CD release "The Peace Makers Chauffeur", which Matt Galloway of CBC Radio Canada called "... brilliant, one of the best releases of the year". ABOUT JASON WILSON
Dr. Jason Wilson is a two-time Juno-Awards nominee and Canadian Reggae Music Award winner from Downsview, Ontario. Born to Scottish parents, Wilson was the protégé of Studio One keyboardist Jackie Mittoo and is the cousin of UB40’s Michael Virtue. Wilson played his first night-club gig with Messenjah when he was only fourteen. Known for incorporating jazz and Scottish and English folk influences atop a reggae foundation, Wilson is a multi-instrumentalist though is perhaps best known for his piano skills. The singer-songwriter has performed and recorded with UB40, Alanis Morissette, Sly & Robbie, Ernest Ranglin, Pee Wee Ellis, Dave Swarbrick, Ron Sexsmith, The Mighty Sparrow, Percy Sledge, Brinsley Forde (Aswad), Dick Gaughan, David Francey and many more. Wilson has extensive studio-session experience on his native instruments the piano and voice, but also on bass, guitar and accordion. Wilson has also been featured on many radio and television shows and is no stranger to the CBC where he has guested on many national and local programmes including Metro Morning; Fresh Air; The Current; Ontario Today; Big City, Small World and Mama Yama. Jason’s own life story and music was featured in a special mini-documentary entitled ‘The Grateful Dread’ that appeared on The National with Peter Mansbridge. Similarly, Wilson’s life was featured in a documentary on BBC radio. Jason's work on the Dumbells - Canada's famous concert party of WWI - was also featured on The National in 2013.

Heralded as “Canada’s preeminent Jazz trumpeter” by NYC’s Village Voice, Brownman Ali - born on the small Caribbean island of Trinidad, & schooled in NYC - is a multiple award-winning NYC-schooled protégé to his teacher, Grammy-winning trumpet legend, Randy Brecker. He tirelessly leads 7 unique ensembles of his own including the internationally acclaimed Miles Davis influenced BROWNMAN ELECTRYC TRIO, and the award-winning CRUZAO latin-jazz quintet. In high demand in the the studio world with over 300 CD appearances to date, Brownman delivers stylistically authentic horn playing over a wide range of styles from bebop to hiphop having worked with the likes of Guru's Jazzmatazz (replacing Donald Byrd in that primordial ensemble), Mos Def, KRS-1, Quincy Jones, Paul Simon, Mingus Dynasty Big Band, Gary Bartz, Chucho Valdes & far too many more to name here. He is considered to be one of the most unique and provocative improvising trumpet players in the nation today and is widely regarded as a vanguard for the evolution of Jazz in Canada. A highly decorated player, his accolades include 2 National Jazz Awards (and 11 nominations over the years), a CBC Galaxie Rising Star award, a SOCAN composers award, Montreal Jazz Fest's "Grand Prix Du Jazz" award, a Toronto Independent Music Award (& 6 nominations), an induction into the WHO'S WHO IN BLACK CANADA, a BRAVO! channel documentary on his life, NOW magazine naming him "Toronto's Best Jazz Musician", CBC Radio Canada named him "one of the most recorded trumpet players in Canadian history", the Trinidad & Tobago Consulate General awarded him with a citation for being a "Distinguished National of Trinidad", and is listed by Air Canada as one of the "Top 10 reasons to visit Toronto".
