James Hale is a jazz journalist who contributes regularly to DownBeat, Signal To Noise and other periodicals. He is a co-author of The Billboard Illustrated Encyclopedia of Jazz & Blues, and a frequent panelist at jazz festivals and educational institutions, including the Portland Jazz Festival and Columbia University.
